Eliminating Contact Form Failures Part 2

Eliminating Contact Form Failures: Part 2

In Part 1 of Eliminating Contact Form Failures I showed you how to set up and configure Contact Form 7. I also detailed how you can drastically reduce spam by using Google’s ReCaptcha service. In this concluding post, I’ll go over how you can save your contact form messages and have those messages sent through SMTP instead of PHP. Saving contact form responses Even if you have properly configured your server or hosting environment, it is impossible to guarantee a 100% success rate of contact form submissions. The one thing that can be done is to have submissions saved to […]

Contact Form Configuration

Eliminating Contact Form Failures: Part 1

You finally have your business website up and running and have made sure your contact information is easily accessible. Typically, you would have your phone number, email address, and perhaps physical address listed so that visitors can connect with you directly. You probably had a contact form set up and tested too. Everything seems great until one of those visitors calls or emails you and says they sent a message through the form but did not receive a reply. Or they filled out the form and immediately after had an error message pop up indicating a failure in sending the […]

WordPress Syntax Highlighting in Editor

Syntax Highlighting is Finally Here!

WordPress 4.9, “Tipton”, has finally implemented a much sought after feature, syntax highlighting. What this does is to color code certain attributes in the PHP, Javascript and CSS files. For instance, a CSS id (such as #footer), has a highlight color of dark blue. A property of #footer, like margin-left, is solid black. The value of that property, let’s say 15px, is highlighted in another color, green. This makes it easy to distinguish the different parts of a CSS file so that you can locate the section you are wanting to edit. Another feature of syntax highlighting is having line […]

StatusCake - Website Monitoring

FREE No Limit Website Monitoring

One of the most nerve-wracking issues a web host provider can face is dealing with websites that go down. Usually, a rather irate customer will contact their hosting provider or web developer and inform them of the problem. With this notice, questions such as “How long has my site been down?” follow. Not only does the web host have to deal with an upset customer but they also must troubleshoot and rectify the problem as quickly as possible. That’s why having a website monitoring service is a must! When I was working for another web design & hosting company, part […]

SSL Will Become Standard

SSL For All

Most people using the internet today understand that when they shop and purchase products from a website and enter sensitive information on a form (credit card and other personal info), they should only do so when that site is secure. Many web browsers make it easy to distinguish that by displaying a padlock, typically near the address bar. This provides a secure channel to submit information that attackers will not be able to decipher. So, exactly how does the process of securing a website work? Through Secure Sockets Layer protocol. Commonly referred to as SSL. A CA (Certificate Authority) issues […]

Renaming Your Login Page

Locking Down Your Login Page

Approximately 28% of websites on the internet are using the WordPress platform. From small / mid-sized businesses to schools, hospitals, and even police departments, the range of WordPress sites has never been larger. I can’t help but guess when I first load a new site if it does, in fact, run on the platform. There are visual cues on the front end and indicators in the source code that make it fairly easy to determine if that is true. Rather than scrutinize every section of a website, I first tend to add /wp-login.php to the end of the domain and […]
