How you should structure your urls for best SEO practices

How you should structure your urls for best SEO practices

Aug 10, 2018

The crew at Yoast really don’t want you to use stop words in your URLs. Stop words, like “the”, offer no benefit and are unnecessary. If you look at some of the posts on this blog, they differ in length and do contain various stop words. While I agree, that they aren’t going to help increase your rankings for a particular keyword, I don’t believe that they can have a negative impact all that much.

There’s no denying that Google dominates all other search engines for market share. Their web browser, Chrome, is used by over 2/3rds of people surfing the internet worldwide. They are by far leading the pack as far as usage statistics are concerned. However, when we start talking about percentages it is easy to forget the other numbers that deserve mention.

How you should structure a FAQ page for SEO purposes

Aug 3, 2018

Whether you can gain any SEO benefits from a FAQ page really depends on the depth and scope of the questions and answers. For instance, if a business lists trivial questions such as What are your business hours? or What is your refund policy?, the probability of it being discovered through the search engines is slim. However, if a complex question has a thorough and detailed answer as it pertains to your business, there is a good chance that some search traffic can be gained.

Recent survey shows SEO is least popular marketing method for businesses

This is a common issue for many of my clients. SEO is expensive. In order to succeed with SEO, a lot of money needs to be spent. It takes time and effort to perform outreach, build relationships, and create brand awareness for companies. If someone tells you they can get your website ranked on the first page for only a couple hundred a month, be very cautious.

What is keyword cannibalization? If you optimize your articles for similar terms, you might suffer from keyword cannibalization: you’ll be devouring your own chances to rank in Google. Google will only show 1 or 2 results from the same domain in the search results for any specific query. If you’re a high authority domain, you might get away with 3.
Why is keyword cannibalism bad for SEO? If you cannibalize your own keywords, you’re competing with yourself for ranking in Google. Let’s say you have two po..

User experience rounded out the top 5 SEO trends of 2018 according to Forbes. It should be considered a given these days, but unfortunately a lot of web designers still neglect optimization and accessibility. In order to get the most possible conversions for your website’s goals, you need to cater to everyone. Should you put a no-follow attribute on Amazon Affiliate links?

Should you put a no-follow attribute on Amazon Affiliate links?

Jul 20, 2018

I really don’t understand the obsession with discrediting links with nofollow. I don’t think I’ve ever placed a nofollow link on this site and any of its blog posts. Perhaps, it’s ignorant on my part. However, I take the definition of nofollow at face value. It tells Google and other search engines that you don’t vouch for that link. So what is the point really?

The Top 3 Best Backlink Checkers for Spying on Competitors

Jul 18, 2018

Getting links to your website is extremely important if you want to rank for mid-to-high volume keywords. Google has said that they are shifting away from using backlinks as the #1 metric in gauging popularity for a web page as it relates to a keyword. Truthfully, there has been no evidence that the power of high-quality backlinks has diminished even slightly. As Google sees it, a backlink is a vote of confidence in that website and/or page. The more quality backlinks that point to your site, the better chance of ranking for a particular keyword. I say quality because years...

Image thumbnails for Google mobile searches recently increased almost by 200%

Jul 16, 2018

If there were any doubts about mobile search priority for Google, these new statistics should eliminate them. Since thumbnail images aren’t a new feature, it would be easy to miss such an increase. Testing out some keyword phrases, it is now very apparent that thumbnails are a lot more promiment than they were several days ago.

Should you implement breadcrumbs on your website? How do they affect SEO?

Should you implement breadcrumbs on your website? How do they affect SEO?

Jul 13, 2018

While the team at yoast seems to conclude that breadcrumbs should be used in every instance, I think small websites might actually suffer from them. Large websites with many deep levels of content stand the most to benefit from breadcrumbs. It is helpful for both Google and visitors to navigate through sections of websites. However, if you’re a small business with a standard 5 to 10 page website, does it really make sense?
