I really believe that it has been ingrained in our minds that Google is the all-mighty search engine. Far superior to any competitors. Yes, they’ve earned that clout through their hard work over the past two decades. However, it’s important to not automatically discount other search engines. Some of them have made a name for themselves by focusing on a particular feature.
I must’ve missed this news last month. I’m a huge proponent of anti-spam measures and contact form security. Especially Google’s recaptcha service. A form without captcha will almost certainly be pummeled with spam messages. This can make filtering out legitimate messages difficult as well as consume resources for your website and server. Over the last several years it has been standard to include Recaptcha for all of the contact forms on clients’ websites.
Maybe I’ll get some flak for saying this, but I don’t care. I really despise smart assistants. Amazon, Google, Apple and Microsoft all have their own brand of assistants. Sure, you may be able to complete a task faster with voice than with manual input, but is it really necessary?
I actually received my first email from Google notifying me of mobile-first indexing. The website is for a client of mine that I manage. Since I design all of my websites to be responsive, I’m not sure what sort of difference this might make. However, prioritizing content for mobile devices is a balancing act. Using CSS, content that appears on desktop can be shifted or omitted. Maybe you have a tagline that shows on your desktop website but want to push more important content further up the screen on mobile. With CSS, you can apply display:none; on that tagline.
I noticed this on my chrome for android browser several days ago. It makes a lot more sense now-a-days vs. the conventional next page button. Why? Because there is no need to render an entirely new page and load static assets along with the new results.
