WordPress 5.0 is postponed!
The new release date is set at the 27th of November. Matias Venture says the following:
After listening to a lot of feedback — as well as looking at current issues, ongoing pull requests, and general progress — we’re going to take an extra week to make sure everything is fully dialed in and the release date is now targeted for November 27th.

WordPress 5.0 should be a significant update for one of the most popular content management systems on the planet. Instead, it feels like it’s a change that nobody asked for or wants. I think the WordPress team has missed the boat with the block-level editor Gutenberg. Perhaps if it was released a few years ago when other premium builders were gaining popularity, the excitement among developers and designers would be heightened.
Yoast CEO and founder Joost de Valk mentions the numerous bugs plaguing the upcoming release as one reason to further postpone version 5.0. He cites stability issues and suggests a January release date would be more appropriate. However, having used Gutenberg for some time now, Joost does offer much praise for its advancement to content editing.
My negative perception of Gutenberg is probably unfair. I haven’t tested it in either its plugin form or within the 5.0 beta releases. Much like how I determine what new movies are worth going to the theater to see, I’ve based my opinion on user feedback and reviews for Gutenberg. It’s unlikely that Gutenberg will lure me away from the highly acclaimed visual builder WPBakery. While I think many veteran WordPress developers probably share my sentiments, if Gutenberg can deliver a similar experience to that of the premium builders, it should entice newcomers to embrace it with open arms.
