So what are the steps to take when setting up an affiliate marketing business with WordPress?
Choosing your niche
Before you do anything else, you’ll have to decide on the niche you wish to pursue. This is not simply a case of trying to work out which products are going to sell the most. Your potential sales revenue depends on your ability to engage with your customers by demonstrating interest and even expertise in the product area you choose. You also need to find a balance between items with a ‘niche’ appeal and those which are likely to have a widespread interest (but where competition will be fiercest.)
I completely agree that the niche you decide upon should be one that you are familiar with. In fact, you should probably love the products that it entails. If you don’t believe in what you’re telling your audience, how do you expect to sell them on it?
In Part 1 of my blog series Niche Dreams, I emphasize the importance of choosing the correct niche. Yes, you should enjoy talking about it, but the competition and search volume are also important factors. Getting into an already saturated niche will make it that much more difficult to achieve page 1 rankings in Google.
You don’t have to be an expert to build a website with WordPress. But you will need to consider adequate hosting, a good theme, and the appropriate plugins. There are tutorials all over the internet that will help guide you setting up your WordPress website. If you get a theme with a bundled visual builder, it will make it that much easier to create your website. Once you have the basics, down you can start creating pages.
It’s not enough that you create product pages here and there. An active blog should be mandatory. You should comment on current trends and topics for your niche. Show people that you care about these products. You won’t get much visibility at first, but if you stay consistent your rankings will slowly creep up.
