WordPress users won’t be able to auto-post to Facebook Profiles

WordPress users won’t be able to auto-post to Facebook Profiles

Jul 31, 2018

When I first read this news, my jaw dropped. Not allowing third-party apps to automatically post on Facebook is a big deal. There are many plugins for WordPress that can be configured to schedule posts through various social media platforms. It is a huge time-saver and helps to sustain brand visibility across the internet. Thankfully, the news isn’t as scary as I thought it to be at first glance.

What is keyword cannibalization? If you optimize your articles for similar terms, you might suffer from keyword cannibalization: you’ll be devouring your own chances to rank in Google. Google will only show 1 or 2 results from the same domain in the search results for any specific query. If you’re a high authority domain, you might get away with 3.
Why is keyword cannibalism bad for SEO? If you cannibalize your own keywords, you’re competing with yourself for ranking in Google. Let’s say you have two po..

Evaluating website performance with optimization and benchmarking tools

Evaluating website performance with optimization and benchmarking tools

Jul 27, 2018

I would hope the very first thing that a web design company would do after finishing a site for a client is to run a speed test. It’s one thing to have an amazing looking site. It’s quite another to have that website load quickly and without any hiccups. As a designer, there has to be a balance between aesthetics, speed, and the needs of your client. Having a widget that affects loading time, for instance, should be taken into consideration. Is it necessary? Will it have value to your visitors?

Prominent websites that failed to switch to HTTPS resulting in Chrome’s ‘Not Secure’

Prominent websites that failed to switch to HTTPS resulting in Chrome’s ‘Not Secure’

Jul 26, 2018

Simply inexcusable. That about sums up my feelings. I feel like I’ve been shouting from the rooftops that the ‘Not Secure’ apocalypse was upon us. Much like the disheveled man holding a cardboard sign proclaiming the end is near, I too feel like no one took me seriously. I’m a little surprised that Google didn’t push it further with a red stop sign icon in addition to the warning. Maybe that is next year?

WordPress has been around for over 15 years, a lot has changed since then

WordPress has been around for over 15 years, a lot has changed since then

Jul 25, 2018

I remember getting my first taste of web design with WordPress back in 2012. Even then, it looked a lot different. The design of the backend was adequate enough. However, when compared to the latest version, it definitely doesn’t look as polished. With theme and plugin authors competing for sidebar space, it is necessary to allow designers easy access to settings and features for quick changes.

Jul 24, 2018

User experience rounded out the top 5 SEO trends of 2018 according to Forbes. It should be considered a given these days, but unfortunately a lot of web designers still neglect optimization and accessibility. In order to get the most possible conversions for your website’s goals, you need to cater to everyone. This means that no matter what device visitors are using, information is readily and easily obtained.

Is Chrome version 68 finally going to be unleashed?

Is Chrome version 68 finally going to be unleashed?

Jul 23, 2018

After hearing about Google’s intention to flag HTTP websites as insecure almost over a year ago, it seems like that time has finally arrived. Many people had expected Chrome 68 to be released at the beginning of July. Nothing happened. I thought due to the impact it would have that Google got cold feet and would delay the rollout. Now, according to CNET, this latest update will begin tomorrow.

Should you put a no-follow attribute on Amazon Affiliate links?

Should you put a no-follow attribute on Amazon Affiliate links?

Jul 20, 2018

I really don’t understand the obsession with discrediting links with nofollow. I don’t think I’ve ever placed a nofollow link on this site and any of its blog posts. Perhaps, it’s ignorant on my part. However, I take the definition of nofollow at face value. It tells Google and other search engines that you don’t vouch for that link. So what is the point really?

The Top 3 Best Backlink Checkers for Spying on Competitors

The Top 3 Best Backlink Checkers for Spying on Competitors

Jul 18, 2018

Getting links to your website is extremely important if you want to rank for mid-to-high volume keywords. Google has said that they are shifting away from using backlinks as the #1 metric in gauging popularity for a web page as it relates to a keyword. Truthfully, there has been no evidence that the power of high-quality backlinks has diminished even slightly. As Google sees it, a backlink is a vote of confidence in that website and/or page. The more quality backlinks that point to your site, the better chance of ranking for a particular keyword. I say quality because years...
