The article does a great job of breaking down significant moments throughout the history of WordPress. It’s really amazing to see how the platform has transformed and evolved over all these years. Especially, the admin interface.
I remember getting my first taste of web design with WordPress back in 2012. Even then, it looked a lot different. The design of the backend was adequate enough. However, when compared to the latest version, it definitely doesn’t look as polished. With theme and plugin authors competing for sidebar space, it is necessary to allow designers easy access to settings and features for quick changes.
Little things such as putting icons next to installed plugins was like a new coat of paint on WordPress. It’s not necessary but it is appreciated. That’s what I love about this platform. It caters to everyone. Whether you are a blogger, designer, developer; the WordPress team treats them all equally. Having such an inclusive group is probably how the platform has come to power almost a third of the websites on the internet. That number looks like it won’t be slowing down any time soon!
