DuckDuckGo now averages around 30 million searches a day

October 15, 2018 News, SEO

News Courtesy of SearchEngineLand.com:

DuckDuckGo, the privacy-focused search engine, posted on Twitter that it has reached a new milestone, breaking 30 million queries per day on average.

50 percent growth. The company said it took seven years to reach 10 million searches in one day. To get to 20 million searches, it took another two years. Now, less than a year later, it is now at 30 million searches per day.

Ryan’s Take

Since Facebook and Google have been under fire this year for privacy leaks, people are searching for alternatives in search and social media. DuckDuckGo claims that they don’t track user behavior or collect any data. They’re committed to providing quality search results while maintaining your privacy.

Over the last few months, I have noticed some referral traffic coming from DuckDuckGo to my niche website. It’s not a ton, but doing some keyword checks on the search engine revealed much better rankings than Google. As someone who likes to gain every advantage, I looked to see if there were any sort of Webmaster Tools for DuckDuckGo. Unfortunately, there are none.

It does seem that DuckDuckGo does a good job of picking up your pages from Google and Bing. I think as long as you’re optimizing and working in both of those platforms’ Webmaster Tools, your pages will get indexed in DDG. As far as ranking highly in that search engine, details are scarce. The only official tip from them is to get high authority backlinks.

While I don’t see them overtaking Bing any time soon as this 2nd most popular US search engine, the traffic gained is a nice bonus that is steadily increasing. As more scandals come up, expect to see more exposure and awareness of DuckDuckGo.
