Did you recently notice a minor or major drop in your Google review count, and then realize that some of your actual reviews had gone missing, too? Read on to see if your experience of removal review was part of the action Google took in late May surrounding anonymous reviews.
Q: What happened?
A: As nearly as I can pinpoint it, Google began discounting reviews left by “A Google User” from total review counts around May 23, 2018. For a brief period, these anonymous reviews were still visible, but were then removed from display. I haven’t seen any official announcement about this, to date, and it remains unclear as to whether all reviews designated as being from “A Google User” have been removed, or whether some still remain. I haven’t been able to discover a single one since the update.
I consider the removal of anonymous reviews on Google to be a good thing. It won’t stop those who are determined to influence a business one way or another. A person can still create fake accounts and post reviews under a pseudonym. At least now extra steps must be taken in order to do so. Fake online reviews have been a plague for some time now.
Amazon has especially been hit hard with fake reviews. Companies have actually gone so far as to send items to unbeknownst amazon users in order to validate a review for their business. Positive reviews can surge sales for a product, conversely, negative reviews can cause those sales to come to a screeching halt.
Our reputation building service encourages feedback from our client’s customers. If for some reason one of those customers has an issue or problem, they can fill out a survey to alert that business. This solves the issue of having a negative review while resolving whatever problem occurred. Customers who give positive feedback will be made aware of various online review sites where they can comment on their experience. Basically, what this does is put the power of influence back into a businesses hands. How that business handles the feedback is up to them.
